LAWRENCE, Ind. (May 23, 2015) – A train traveling through the Lawrence area struck and killed a woman Saturday night.

Lawrence Police say the incident happened around 9:20 p.m.  in the area of East 43rd Street and Kingman Drive.  That is near North Shadeland Avenue and Pendleton Pike.

Preliminary reports indicate a 25 year old female and her boyfriend were returning home after going to a nearby convenience store.

The two were walking along the railroad tracks, heard the train and thought they had shifted over to the tracks the train was not on.

A train engineer told police he saw the couple with their hands over their ears.

The female was closest to the tracks and was clipped by the front of the train as it passed.

She died at the scene.  The identity of the victim has not been released.
