INDIANAPOLIS (May 28, 2015) – One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a hit-and-run accident on Indy’s near northwest side.

The crash occurred just after 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of West 22nd Street and North Tibbs Avenue.

Police on the scene said a Chevrolet SUV hit a red Honda car at the intersection and the driver of the SUV left the scene on foot.

Two men inside the Honda were transported to Eskenazi Hospital where one was pronounced dead.

“In this case, the driver did not render aid and the driver of the Honda died as a result of that. This could have been anyone of us. So, we want the public to know that we are concerned and they should be too,” said IMPD Officer Chris Wilburn.

Police are looking for the driver of the SUV. They believe it's 31-year-old Michael Dale of Indianapolis. He has warrants out for a parole violation for previous charges of cocaine possession and escape, police said. Dale will now be facing more charges after leaving the scene of an accident that caused great bodily harm and death.

Residents who live near the crash scene say Tibbs Avenue is a dangerous area for drivers. Residents say cars often travel around 50 mph or more on Tibbs Avenue.

“They really speed down this street, we sit out here on the porch and watch people speed down this street,” said Northwest side resident Benjamin French.

Anyone who sees Dale or knows his whereabouts should call 911 or Crime Stoppers at (317) 262-TIPS.
