INDIANAPOLIS (June 1, 2015) – A Fort Wayne man was sentenced to 27 years in federal prison after being caught during a bank robbery in Fishers in 2013.

According to federal prosecutors, Deandre Armour, 39, was part of a team of “career bank robbers” who held hostages a gunpoint. He was convicted of conspiracy to commit armed bank robbery, bank robbery and brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.

In June 2013, the FBI learned Armour and several others planned to carry out a series of bank robberies in the Indianapolis area. They tracked him while he “cased” a Community Bank Branch on Reynolds Drive in Fishers. Investigators had Armour under surveillance for two weeks.

On June 25, 2013, Armour and his crew mapped out their plan to rob the bank, traveling from Fishers to Fort Wayne to buy supplies, including disguises, zip ties, latex gloves and two-way radios.

On June 26, Armour dropped off two accomplices, Duryea Rogers and Xavier Hardy, near the bank, where they hid in a dumpster enclosure near the back door. Both wore disguises and carried loaded guns. Armour and two others parked in a nearby lot where he communicated with Rogers and Hardy using two-way radios.

They jumped an employee who arrived around 8 a.m. to unlock the back door. She couldn’t open the vault on her own, so the men bound her hands and feet. They stole the employee’s car and took off while Armour and the other accomplices followed.

FBI agents and Fishers police tracked the vehicles to North-by-Northeast Boulevard and Carney Drive near 96th Street in Fishers. Hardy was taken into custody after a short chase on foot. Rogers was captured after hiding in a closet at a nearby hotel. Investigators recovered Rogers’ handgun and other evidence nearby. Police captured Armour and the remaining accomplices.

In addition to Armour, three accomplices have been sentenced for their role in the robbery:

  • Duryea Rogers 28, Fort Wayne, received a 12 year sentence
  • Xavier Hardy, 27, Fort Wayne, received an 11 year sentence
  • Tahitia Burnett, 42, Fort Wayne, received a seven year sentence
