VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (June 2, 2015) —  Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday Indiana State Police troopers and Terre Haute police officers were dispatched along Interstate 70 at the westbound bridge over US 41 for a male pedestrian acting erratically. Callers had reported that a male appeared to be wanting to “jump” off the bridge from Interstate 70 onto US 41 while other callers stated he was running into the westbound lanes of traffic.

Moments before officers arrived, the male ran southbound from the north edge of the bridge into the westbound passing lane and into the path of a westbound tractor-trailer. Medical officials worked tirelessly on the victim, but ultimately he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer reported he was unable to stop his box trailer loaded with food items that he had picked up in Ohio and was being transported to Texas.

The driver was given a standard chemical test which he passed and ISP Commerical Vehicle Enforcement officers found no violations with his rig.
