INDIANAPOLIS, IN (June 5, 2015) - Hundreds of volunteers will be downtown Indianapolis Friday in green gardening aprons to collect funds for the Alzheimer’s Association in the 13th annual Bankers Life Forget Me Not Days.
"When you think about who our customers are, early retirees or pre-retirees, these are people that not only have dealt with their parents but now some are dealing with it themselves so it’s really a way for us as a company to connect with our customer base with a very real problem," said Mike Heard, Senior Vice President of Operations of CNO Financial Group, the parent company of Bankers Life.
Nearly 200 volunteers from Bankers Life, CNO Financial Group and the Alzheimer’s Association will be collecting donations to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter. The Indiana Pacers’ Boomer and Pacemates will make appearances.
"This is a very real problem and it’s something that used to be kind of quiet and now something that’s very real that people deal with," said Heard. "Not only does the money help in terms of supporting families who are coping, but also a cure."
In exchange for the donations, volunteers will hand out packets of Forget-Me-Not flower seeds to take home and plant in honor of families across Indiana who are facing or have lost someone with Alzheimer’s. More than five million Americans, including 110,000 Hoosiers, are living with this disease.
One hundred percent of the money collected will go to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter.
For the first time, you can make a donation by texting, ENDALZ to 41444.
Volunteers will collect donations at these downtown locations from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.:
• Monument Circle
• Georgia Street
• Outside of Circle Centre Mall
• Massachusetts Avenue
