INDIANAPOLIS (June 8, 2015) – A pedestrian was hit and killed on the south side early Monday morning.

IMPD investigators believe the victim is a woman and they say she was wearing dark clothing and carrying a dark umbrella.

It happened around 5:15 a.m. near East Thompson Road and Madison Avenue. She was hit by a white minivan. Police say the driver of the van is cooperating with police and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the accident.

There are sidewalks on part of Thompson Road but the sidewalk ends where the woman was hit. At this point, investigators believe she was walking on the side of the road with the flow of traffic and the driver simply couldn't see her in the dark clothes and dark, rainy conditions.

The coroner is working to identify the victim and notify family members.
