Coroner rules death of man at IMPD officer’s home accidental

INDIANAPOLIS (June 11, 2015) – The coroner has ruled the death of a man found inside the home of an Indianapolis Metropolitan police officer an accident.

The Marion County Coroner’s Office said Aaron Barnes, 34, died from inhalation of concentrated chloroform. His body was found inside a southwest side Indianapolis home on April 5. The home in the 8600 block of Ingalls Lane belonged to Gregory Slaven, a 15-year IMPD veteran who worked in the Northwest District.

On May 25, Slaven himself was found dead in the home. No foul play is suspected, although the case remains under investigation.
