COLUMBUS, Ind. (June 11, 2015)— A bicyclist was arrested after police said he crashed into a tree but lied about how he was injured.

Deputies with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department responded to an accident in the 5400 block of West Goeller Road Wednesday night, after a caller stated she saw a man with a bloody face, who claimed he was struck by a vehicle. When authorities arrived, they found 56-year-old David Frank lying near a dam.

Sheriff’s deputies noted Frank had injuries to his head, legs and arm. Frank told deputies he was struck by a SUV but could not recall details.

After receiving treatment at Columbus Regional Hospital, Frank recanted his story and told police he was riding his bicycle when he ran into a pole or a tree.

Frank was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on a public intoxication charge.
