June is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (June 13, 2015) -- Alzheimer's is a fatal disease that affects 47 million individuals worldwide, including 110,000 Hoosiers. By 2030, the number if people living with dementia worldwide is expected to jump to 76 million.

Locally, there are several events lined up to raise awareness:

  • CruZionsville – June 13, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Car show and family-friendly community day featuring 125 Porsche cars along Brick Street in Zionsville. All proceeds will benefit local Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
  • Akard’s True Value Hardware Bucket Sale – June 19-21. Purchase a 5 gallon bucket for a $5 donation to the Alzheimer's Association and receive 20% off the items you can fit in the bucket (some restrictions apply). On June 21 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., enjoy great food on the grill, Weber Grill demonstrations, music and bake sale to honor a caregiver or someone facing Alzheimer’s disease at Akard’s True Value Hardware in Boone Village Shopping Center.
  • Lemonade & Treat Stand at Black Dog Books – June 20, 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Purchase refreshing drinks and baked goods from local author, Molly Godby, from Chicken Soup for the Soul: Living with Alzheimer’s & Other Dementias, and her children in front of Black Dog Books in Zionsville. All proceeds to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
  • Z’Sparkle to End Alzheimer’s – August 14, 8 p.m. The community’s finest and bravest gentlemen don their best dresses and high heels, and the toughest ladies don their manliest gear and “race” down Main Street in a sparkly parade of splendor in exchange for donations to the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter. Enjoy music, food and spirits – all for a great cause!
