BELLEVILLE, Ill. (June 14, 2015) — On Friday, Ciara A. Jackson, 25, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of her newborn baby.

St. Clair County State’s Attorney says Jackson delivered the baby on September 27, 2013 and knowingly allowed the baby “to remain submerged” under water.

She is also accused of attempting to conceal the death at an East St. Louis home by throwing the child out of a second-floor window.

An autopsy found cocaine in the boy’s system.

Jackson remains in jail in lieu of $500,000 bond. Online court records didn’t list an attorney working on her behalf.

The baby was buried with a donated headstone at a southwest Illinois cemetery. The Belleville News-Democrat reports the headstone was donated anonymously.
