(July 6, 2015) – A teenager was brutally beaten by a group of young girls this weekend while downtown for the Fourth of July fireworks, and it was all caught on camera.
According to the teen's mother, the fight was unprovoked and random.
"It hurts so bad, nobody even knows how bad it hurts to watch that video," said Whitney, the teenage victim's mother.
She claims another group of girls started calling her names.
"One of them approached her and said, 'Hey you're ugly.' Even though they didn't know her, they wanted to start something--they swung on her," said Whitney.
While Whitney's daughter didn't know the other girls in the video, shortly after the fight, the girls took it upon themselves to get recognized.
The video was quickly posted on social media.
"I guess they are trying to get a name for themselves. They are young kids and they need role models," said Whitney.
The video shows several teenagers standing around and filming the incident when the two girls appear to team-up against the other.
"If that's your plan to come downtown and be a disturbance and cause these types of issues, we don't need you downtown," said IMPD Officer Rafael Diaz.
Diaz says the teens in the video could face charges in the future.
"If anyone knows who these individuals are, more than likely you will probably get identified by someone and you are going to face repercussions," said Diaz.
The teenage victim says she was sprayed with mace and hit with a weapon -- possibly brass knuckles during the fight. She suffered a cut to the ear that required five stitches.
Police are investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made.
The victim’s mother hopes this video will hold the other girls accountable.
