Police arrest driver in motorcycle crash that killed a passenger

UPDATE:  Police have arrested the driver of a motorcycle that crashed on Interstate 465 killing his passenger early Saturday.

Investigators say Joshua Rork, 37, Indianapolis was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson on the entrance ramp from Mann Road to I-465 eastbound with passenger Tiffany Smith, 33, of Indianapolis.

As the motorcycle accelerated onto I-465, it struck an orange construction area barrel in the roadway.

Police say Rork lost control and both riders were ejected from the motorcycle.

Rork was taken to Eskenazi Hospital with head injuries and cuts.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say neither was wearing helmets.

Rork was later arrested for Operating While Intoxicated, Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, and Criminal Recklessness With a Motor Vehicle.

Interstate 465 in the area of the crash was closed or lanes restricted for some two hours while investigators and clean-up crews completed their work.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 11, 2015) - Indiana State Police say one person is dead and another person is hurt after a motorcycle crashed Saturday morning around 3:45 a.m. It happened on I-465 near the Mann Road exit. Eastbound traffic in the area was closed until about 6 a.m.

Police say one person was pronounced dead on scene and the other person's injuries are unknown, but they were taken to the hospital. Police do not believe any other drivers were involved in the crash.
