INDIANAPOLIS (July 13, 2015) – Indianapolis Metropolitan police are investigating after a woman was found dead in a basement at an east side home.

Police were called to the home in the 2500 block of East 18th Street Monday morning. Crime Scene investigators spent a most of the day at the home collecting evidence and taking pictures.

Sources tell FOX59 a person living in the home discovered the body and called 911.

IMPD said this is a homicide investigation and confirmed a person of interest had been detained. Detectives said they have interviewed multiple people in connection with the case.

Investigators are not releasing details about how the woman died and they are still trying to determine when someone killed her.

"It's still very early in the investigation and so we're just not clear as to the circumstances leading up to the death," said Lt. Roger Spurgeon with IMPD's Homicide Division.

A man living in a camper behind the home told FOX59 he had no idea a body was inside.

Police have not released the woman's identity.
