WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (July 23, 2015) — Mothers and daughters can take part in a free engineering program next month.

Purdue University’s Women in Engineering Program and the YWCA of Greater Lafayette are hosting the Aug. 1 event. It’s for girls in grades four through six and their mothers.

Organizers say female Purdue engineering students will guide students through in hands-on engineering and science projects. Girls also will work on a project with their mothers.

The goal is to teach students leadership and academic skills and teach mothers about encouraging their daughters’ interests in science and engineering.
