Excise officers arrest 199 people during festival in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (August 30, 2015) – Indiana State Police excise officers arrested 199 people during the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute.

The arrests break down to 95 adults, 92 minors, and 12 juveniles.

Sixty seven of those arrests were for illegal possession or consumption of an alcoholic beverage.  Three people were arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and five were charged with criminal recklessness with a motor vehicle.

On Saturday night, Ashley N. Dawson, 26, of Terre Haute, was arrested and preliminarily charged with driving while suspended with a prior conviction, operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering another person, and neglect of a dependant after the vehicle in which she was allegedly driving was stopped for traveling left of center on 2nd Avenue near the intersection of 4th St.  Two of the passengers in Dawson’s vehicle were her 14 month old and three month old children.  The other passenger was her husband, Jason P. Dawson, 28, of Terre Haute.  He was arrested on a Vigo County warrant and also preliminarily charged with public intoxication and neglect of a dependent. Both were incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail.  The Dawson’s children were released to the custody of a relative.

Early Sunday morning, Ryan T. Bell, 23, of Terre Haute, was arrested on the preliminary charge of  resisting law enforcement in the area of the Drury Inn located on 3040 S U.S. 41.  Bell was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped earlier by an Indiana State Police Trooper.  Bell ran from the vehicle and eluded the trooper.  The trooper later saw Bell walking near the Drury Inn.  A plain clothed excise officer approached Bell and identified himself as a police officer.  Bell then allegedly shoved the officer and ran towards 3rd Street.  He was apprehended a short time later and transported to the Vigo County Jail.
