Railway contractor working along tracks in northern Indiana killed

AUBURN, Ind. (September 5, 2015) — Police in northeastern Indiana say a railway contractor has died after being struck by a train.

Auburn police say the 54-year-old man was working along tracks in the city about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne when the death occurred Friday morning. Witnesses told police the contractor had walked past a stopped train and onto a second set of tracks, apparently unaware another train was approaching. Police said the man was struck by the front of the approaching train and died instantly.

Police did not immediately release the name of the man.
