INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 29, 2015)– An arrest has been made in connection with a March 2011 fatal hit-and-run.

On March 4, 2011, police say Hadleigh Cave, 13, was walking on Franklin Road when she was hit by a car. It was dark and the road was wet. The driver of the car left the scene. Cave died from her injuries the following day.

Christopher Stimac, 44, faces charges of failure to stop after an accident resulting in death, obstruction of justice and insurance fraud.

Earlier this summer, investigators received new information on the 4-year-old case that eventually led them to Stimac. After interviewing him, investigators placed him under arrest on Tuesday.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Stimac’s wife said he’d been working in Cincinnati on the day of the crash and drove back that night following an after-work party. She said he came home in a panic and thought he’d hit something. He’d been drinking that night, he told her.

The next day, he told her he’d been involved in a crash in Cincinnati that totaled his car. He filed an insurance claim, leading to the insurance fraud charge, prosecutors said.
