AUBURN, Ind. (Oct. 1, 2015) — An Auburn woman at the center of a Silver Alert has been found safe, according to Indiana State Police.

Carolin F. Carteaux, 79, was last seen Tuesday in Auburn, about 24 miles north of Fort Wayne. A statewide Silver Alert was issued by Indiana State Police Wednesday afternoon.

Around 10:30 p.m., dispatchers in Miami County received a call about a Toyota Prius matching the description of the car Carteaux was believed to be driving. The car was going 15 mph in a 60 mph zone, police said. A state trooper saw the license plate matched Carteaux’s and initiated a traffic stop. Carteaux’s car continued at low speeds for about four miles.

The car slowed to three of four mph, and the trooper ran to the driver’s side window. It then continued going for a few hundred feet before stopping. The trooper said the driver seemed disoriented and convinced her to roll down the window. He reached inside the vehicle and put it in park.

The trooper identified the woman as Carteaux and said she was disoriented and didn’t know where she was going or where she’d been. She was taken a hospital for evaluation.
