Three teenagers arrested on murder charges after fatal shooting of 17-year-old boy

UPDATE: Terrence Richardson was found guilty in the murder of Steven Kendall II on Nov. 16, 2016. Kaylend Gilbert and Jalen Heffner were both found not guilty.  Richardson was sentenced to 55 years in the Department of Correction.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 8, 2015) – Indianapolis Metropolitan police arrested three teenagers in connection with a fatal shooting from Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to New York and Rural streets around 2 p.m. Sunday where they found 17-year-old Steven Kendall II shot to death in an alley in the 2800 block of East New York Street.

Arrested were Kaylend Gilbert, Jalen Heffner and Terrence Richardson, all 17 years old.

Police said Kendall was at a nearby convenience store shortly before he was found. Kendall knew the three teens arrested in the case, investigators said. Detectives believe he was walking with the three others when one of them took out a gun and shot him.

The three teenagers each face a count of murder.
