Toddler killed, mother and son injured in I-70 crash in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Ind. (October 10, 2015) – A crash on Interstate 70 in Henry County has claimed the life of a three-year-old girl.

The accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Saturday at the 131 mile marker, which is near the Wilbur Wright Road Exit.

According to the Henry County Sheriff the accident involved a pick-up truck and three passenger vehicles.

Investigators say traffic heading eastbound had slowed to a stop on the interstate .  The driver of the pick-up, however, failed to get stopped and slammed into a car occupied by a 29 -year-old Anderson woman and her two young children.

The children, ages 3 and 1-year-old were both in car seats.  Medics pronounced the 3-year-old dead at the scene. She was later identified as Brooklyn Pope.

The 1-year-old was taken by medical helicopter to Riley Hospital for Children. He was identified as Gavin Pope. The mother was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital. She was alter identified as Ashley Pope.

Both are still in critical condition.

The interstate which was closed for several hours has since reopened.
