65-year-old man dies in Chicago skydiving accident

OTTAWA, Ill. (October 11, 2015) — A 65-year-old suburban Chicago man has died following a skydiving accident in the northern Illinois community of Ottawa.

The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office says Richard Gomez of Berwyn was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday morning.

Cpl. Dave Woolford says emergency crews responded to a report of a “hard landing” at Skydive Chicago around 10 a.m.

The sheriff’s office says it is investigating the incident along with the LaSalle County Coroner’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration.

A spokeswoman at Skydive Chicago said Sunday the company had no comment.

Skydive Chicago is located about 85 miles southwest of Chicago.
