INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Oct. 22, 2015) – A shooting early Thursday morning killed a 23-year-old man, family members say.

The shooting happened around 4:30 a.m. at East 9th and North Tuxedo streets. Family members identified the victim as Jordan White. Police said there didn’t appear to be forced entry into the home, meaning they don’t think the shooting was random.

Anthoney Hampton, the victim’s stepfather, said his stepson was part of an anti-violence group called Working Against Devils Every Day (WADE).

“All I can tell y’all, the young man was a great young man. He gave you all the love in the world,” Hampton said. “He made his mistakes like just about every young man, but he was trying to change.”

Police are continuing to investigate the shooting.

“A couple of individuals have been detained, I’m not saying they’re persons of interest at all,” said Lt. Richard Riddle from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. “They were the ones that found the body inside the house so we’re speaking to them to see what they know and if we can garner any information from them.”

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS.
