Evacuation follows building collapse
MARION, Ind. (October 24, 2015)–A former factory building on the south side of Marion collapsed Saturday
Emergency crews were called to the 3300 block of Nebraska Street around noon after getting calls that the front wall of the one-story building collapsed onto the sidewalk in front of the building.
According to Marion Assistant Fire Chief Jason Hale, the roof to the vacant structure collapsed a few months ago and the building was scheduled for demolition.
Nebraska Street between 33rd and 34th Streets was closed for 2 to 3 hours. Gas utility crews arrived to shut off the gas to the building.
Occupants of the Marion Flea Market and a tattoo shop were evacuated while crews brought in a back hoe to push in the remaining walls.
No injuries were reported. Nebraska Street has since reopened.
