FOUNTAIN SQUARE (October 31, 2015) -  A longtime Fountain Square store is saying goodbye, but not before thanking all of its long time customers and making sure employees have a place to go.

Bud's Supermarket is closing around the end of November after nearly 38 years in business.

Owner Bud Martin says after 53 years in the grocery store business, it's time for him to retire.

Martin will still own the building and plans to lease it out to Goodwill. He says he's also making sure his employees have a place to go when the supermarket closes up for good.

“They’ve offered to hire all my employees so, They have no problem and that they’re not gonna go without a paycheck,” said Martin.

Bud's is also thanking all of the customers who've supported the supermarket for decades. Martin has had several opportunities to sell the property in the past, but waited for the right business to come along that was good for his employees and the neighborhood.

Martin plans on spending time with his family and friends and even doing some fishing in his retirement.

There are several grocery store options within two miles of Buds that will now serve the area.
