Answers demanded from treasure hunter about gold coins pulled from historic shipwreck
COLUMBUS, Ohio (Nov. 2, 2015) — Investors trying to determine the location of 500 gold coins pulled from a historic shipwreck are demanding better answers from an ex-fugitive deep-sea treasure hunter.
The investors say Tommy Thompson has been evasive in his responses and is violating his plea agreement by refusing to say more.
Thompson went missing three years ago amid demands that he appear in court. He and his longtime companion, Alison Antekeier, were apprehended in January at a hotel where he was living near Boca Raton, Florida.
As part of his guilty plea to a contempt of court charge earlier this year, the 63-year-old Thompson must answer questions in closed-door sessions about the whereabouts of those coins.
Thompson faces two years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 at his Nov. 24 sentencing.
