INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Nov. 3, 2015) — While most voters are likely thinking about local elections for political office, the Indianapolis Zoo invites them to cast their vote for cuteness on Election Day.
Starting Tuesday morning, you can vote on Facebook to choose names for the three African lion cubs born recently at the zoo. Zookeepers selected nine names and whittled the list down to six for a public vote. The three most popular names will go to the cubs. Voters have until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, to vote. The zoo will announce the results on Dec. 1.
To vote, go to the Indianapolis Zoo’s Facebook page. You can vote once a day. One lucky fan will receive an Indianapolis Zoo prize pack that includes a lion plush and a family four-pack of tickets.
Here are the proposed names:
- Enzi (ehn-ZEE), “powerful”
- Mashaka (mash-AH-kah), “troublemaker”
- Zuberi (zuw-BEH-ree), “strong”
- Leland (LEE-lahnd), “meadowland”
- Sukari (sue-CAR-ee), “sweet”
- Niara (nee-AH-rah), “one with high purpose”
The cubs were born on Sept. 21 and are the first lion cubs born at the zoo since 2003.
