INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (November 7, 2015) – Detectives arrested an Indianapolis man in connection with a carjacking on the near east side Saturday morning.

Dre Echols was arrested and preliminarily charged with robbery, a class C felony.

According to detectives, Echols met the victim and an associate at a bar located in the 3800 block of English Avenue on Friday evening.

While Echols was inside the bar, he and an associate devised a plan to rob the victim of her vehicle and prescription drugs.

At approximately 3:20 a.m.,  the suspect approached the victim while she was at the Marathon gas station located on the 3100 block of English Avenue.

He pointed a loaded handgun directly at the victim and told her to “get out.”

IMPD officers arrived a short time later and located Echols.

Detectives found a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun on the floorboard of the victim’s vehicle.

Additionally, police located the victim’s bottle of prescription drugs on him.

Echols was positively identified by the victim, and he admitted to the robbery.

Echols was transported to the APC by the Marion County Sheriff Office wagon without incident.
