Police: Mother arrested on neglect charge after child tests positive for opioids

GREENFIELD, Ind. (Nov. 16, 2015) – Police in Hancock County arrested a mother over the weekend after her 18-month-old child tested positive for opioids.

According to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Brooke Copp, 23, New Palestine, was arrested on a charge of neglect of a dependent causing bodily injury. Her 18-month-old child was admitted to an Indianapolis hospital.

Investigators have contacted the Department of Child Services and are working to determine how the child ingested the drugs.
