BOONE COUNTY, Ind. (November 18, 2018) — The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that the temporary traffic light at the intersection of US 52 and SR 47 will now become permanent.

INDOT officials have studied the statistics from the intersection since it was installed mid August.  Those results led them to make it official.  There has been an obvious drop in vehicle collisions and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office also reports consistently slower speeds in the area.

Sheriff Mike Nielsen commented on the decision:

“I am glad that the INDOT study proved the fact that a traffic signal device should be permanently installed at the Intersection of US 52 and SR 47.  This particular intersection has been troublesome for many years.  I want to thank INDOT, the Governor’s Office, the Indiana State Police, and anyone else involved in making this decision a permanent one.  I also wish to thank all of the citizens of this county for their support and for standing as one voice to accomplish this task.  This decision will keep the citizens of this county and the motoring public safer for years to come.”

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind travelers to be safe and drive defensively.  The traffic light is still fairly new, be conscious of slowed speeds and ready for stopped traffic in the area.
