IRWIN, PA (November 21, 2015) – A Pennsylvania man was charged with killing a dog he recently adopted from the animal shelter.

KDKA spoke with police who said Jason French, 33, strangled his dog to death and showed no remorse. In fact, French was preparing to dig a hole in his backyard to bury the dog when police arrived.

“There were several women working at a plant across the street from the back of his house who heard the dog barking and yelping,” Officer Michael Hooper told KDKA. “They did witness French pounding his fist on the ground, possibly hitting the dog.”

Police found the 30-pound Labrador mix lying dead on the ground when they arrived. Officers asked French what was going on, and French allegedly replied, “He wouldn’t stop barking, so I had to do it.”

According to KDKA, the criminal complaint says French showed no remorse for what he did.

“He decided to strangle the dog with his bare hands until it stopped moving. It took him about three hours to strangle the dog. He said he was surprised that it took him that long to do so,” said Hooper.

French has been charged with one count of cruelty to animals. Police say he recently adopted the dog from the shelter.
