INDIANAPOLIS (December 16, 2015) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating an armed robbery at a Village Pantry Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a call about a robbery near the intersection of 86th Street and Ditch Road just 3 a.m.

The store’s clerk told police a man approached the counter and pulled out what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun. She said the suspect then instructed her to give him all the cash from the register. The clerk said the man inquired about a safe, but she told him she did not have access to it. She said he then fled the store, heading westbound on 86th Street.

The suspect was described to be a black male in his late 30’s, approximately 220 pounds and 6-feet tall. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, a red baseball hat, black pants and black gloves.

The Village Pantry is the same store where clerk Marcy Birnell was shot in the head by a 15-year-old robbery suspect in 2011, prompting a push for tighter security for overnight workers.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
