LAWRENCE COUNTY, Ind. (December 22, 2015) – A father in southern Indiana is taking the “Elf on the Shelf” trend to a whole new level!

Lawrence County Detective Tyler Phillips dressed up as a real-life elf much to the delight of his step-daughters, Abby and Harleigh.

Phillips says he made his outfit using a $6 sweatshirt and sweatpants from Walmart, a Santa hat, and a pair of white gloves.

The first night, Phillips hid in the house and surprised his step-daughters. They got such a kick out of it that the three of them started planning the pictures together.

Phillips says it’s been a great way to blow off steam from his detective duties, and he hopes the girls will remember this for years to come.
