INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 30, 2015) – Robert Mathis continues to make a difference.

The Indianapolis Colts veteran linebacker has been named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week on the strength of his two sacks and five tackles in last Sunday’s 18-12 win at Miami.

Mathis’ second sack sealed the game. It came on fourth-and-goal at the 5-yard line and Mathis got to quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the Colts’ season-high sixth sack of the game.

It marks the fourth time in Mathis’ career he’s earned the NFL’s weekly honor.

Coincidentally, Mathis’ former teammate and long-time friend Dwight Freeney was named the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week for his three-sack game last weekend against Green Bay.

Freeney ranks No. 19 in NFL history with 118.5 sacks. Mathis is next with 118.
