COLUMBUS, Ind. (Dec. 30, 2015) – Police say a Columbus man left the scene of a crash after striking a pedestrian, leaving him severely injured Monday.

Officers arrested Benjamin Anderson, 31, on a preliminary charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, according to the Columbus Police Department.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of 13th Street around 9:20 p.m. Monday where they found the victim unresponsive on the road. According to police, witnesses reported seeing a vehicle speeding down 13th Street before the crash.

The pedestrian, identified as Benjamin Taylor, 27, was flown to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he was listed in serious condition. A witness told investigators Taylor stepped into the street to try to get the speeding vehicle to slow down.

Columbus police found Anderson about an hour later after a family member contacted police to report that Anderson may have hit someone with his car.

Anderson went to Columbus Regional Hospital for a blood draw before being taken to the Bartholomew County Jail.
