(January 9, 2016) – An American Idol audition on Thursday night brought everyone to tears.

Tristan McIntosh, 15, of Nashville, said her mother is serving in the military overseas, and she said it was really weird doing the audition without her. McIntosh said her mother is the reason she’s a musician, and her goal was to make her mother proud.

McIntosh impressed the judges when she performed “Why Baby Why” by Mickey Guyton.

After the song was over, Harry Connick Jr. read McIntosh an email, and he said it was from “one of her family members.” The email said:

“You’ve always called me your big hero, but today you are my big hero because you are doing something that you’ve dreamt about since you were 10-years-old. Do your best today, and most importantly, have fun.”

McIntosh started crying after hearing the email, but what happened next brought even the judges to tears!
