British actor Alan Rickman dies at age 69

(Jan. 14, 2016) – Acclaimed British actor Alan Rickman, best known for his roles in Die Hard and the Harry Potter movies, has died, according to BBC News and the Guardian.

Rickman, 69, was suffering from cancer. The BBC said Rickman’s agent confirmed the news of his passing.

Rickman was known for his distinctive voice and often portrayed dastardly villains, with memorable roles as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner. Rickman also played Severus Snape in the Harry Potter series and starred in several other films and theatrical productions.
