Half way through winter, sort of

Meteorological winter, the months of December, January and February hit the mid-way point Friday.  We’ve been saving on heating up until this week.  The latest thaw has ended Friday night and colder air is set to surge into the state this weekend.  To date, the average temperature for ‘winter’ is 38.5° ranking 7th warmest on record.

Friday marked the 34th day above normal since December 1st – a whopping 79% of the days.

Rainfall Friday brings the seasonal total precipitation to 6.85″ and that’s 2.30″ above normal.

Snowfall has been lacking with only 5.3″ for the season in Indianapolis (including November’s 1.3″).  Over half the seasonal snow has fallen int he past six days.
