Man killed in shooting on the city’s near northeast side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (January 20, 2016) – One man is dead and another is injured after a shooting on the city’s near northeast side early Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department responded to a report of a person shot in the 2900 block of Oxford Lane just before 1:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say when they arrived on scene, they found a man with a gunshot wound to the hand and his uninjured girlfriend. He was transported to IU Health Methodist Hospital in good condition.

Moments later, officers say another man arrived at Community East Hospital suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and died a short time later. They believe that these two injuries were related to the same shooting.

Investigators on scene believe the two men were involved in an altercation when shots were fired. Police also found evidence of illegal narcotics inside the apartment where the shooting occurred.

Police have detained several people for questioning, but have not made any arrests in this case.
