(February 2, 2016) – INDOT crews helped save the life of an owl on Monday. Workers found the owl on the side of Interstate 69 while repairing a cable barrier in Dekalb County, and they sprang into action to help him.

They contacted the DNR who then referred them to Soarin’ Hawk Raptor Rehabilitation Center.

Upon examination, it appears the owl is blind. His left eye has lesions inside the eye that indicate he may have been blind in that eye for a while.

His right eye has some response to light, so the rehab center believes he may be able to regain vision in that eye. If he is able to regain vision in his right eye, he can become an education bird.
