INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 22, 2016)-- Indianapolis metropolitan police said human remains were found Monday on the east side.

Officers were initially called to the 6400 block of Olivia Lane, near Shadeland Avenue and East 34th Street, around 6 p.m. Someone who was fishing in the area saw something and called 911.

There is a pond with a wooded area, but police did not believe the remains were found in the water.

IMPD confirmed they were conducting a death investigation involving human remains, but could not elaborate further.

"Our detectives are investigating the area," said Sgt. Catherine Cummings. "They will do a crime scene sweep of the area. They will make note of what is out there, try to collect any evidence. Then, they will turn it over to the Marion County Coroner's office."

The coroner's office is currently working to identify the victim and the determine the manner of death. IMPD tells FOX 59 they won't release any additional information until the coroner examines the body.
