Phone scammers falsely using BMV name to gain public’s trust
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ( March 3, 2016)– The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles is warning Hoosiers to be aware of phone solicitors who call claiming to be from the BMV promising lower car insurance rates if they use the BMV services.
Hoosiers may also be receiving postal mail requesting personal information like date of birth and Social Security numbers in exchange for information about those insurance rates and programs.
The Indiana BMV reminds everyone that they do not and will not contact customers offering insurance-related information and encourage those that are contacted not to give out personal information over the phone or through computer or postal mail.
If you have received a call or information by mail and you are unsure if it came directly from the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, contact the call center at 888-692-6841 to verify its authenticity. You can also contact the BMV through email at https://secure.in.gov/BMV/mybmv/Contact.aspx
