Death investigation inside Soldier and Sailors Monument

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 12, 2016)–Indiana State Police are investigating a woman’s death inside the Indiana Soldier and Sailors monument on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis.

Police and paramedics were sent to the landmark shortly after 5:30 p.m. on reports of a person down.

The victim, 41-year-old Jennifer Civitarese of Kokomo, fell on the steps inside the monument and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a witness, the woman fell down approximately 8 stairs to a landing.

Investigators say they do not believe any foul play was involved.

The Marion County coroner will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Preliminary reports indicate the woman was touring inside the monument with her family when she suddenly collapsed.
