Police arrest man after fatal shooting in southern Indiana

UPDATE: (5:17 p.m.) Police say they have arrested Matheny, who was found in north of Patesville, Kentucky. He faces charges of convicted felon in possession of a firearm and murder.

The victim was identified as Phillip Chase, 47.

CANNELTON, Ind. (March 14, 2016) – Indiana State Police is investigating a shooting in Cannelton that left one man dead Monday.

Police tell us the shooting suspect, 47-year-old Stacy Matheny,  is still at-large.

Authorities responded to the shooting at a home in the 4300 block of Bell Hollow Road around 11 a.m. Police say Matheny drove to the home and confronted a man outside. After a brief verbal altercation, Matheny allegedly pulled out a handgun and fatally shot the man. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroner.

Police say Matheny left the scene, driving a green 2001 Ford Explorer. Investigating officers believe it’s possible that he may be in the Hopkins County, Kentucky area and may possibly be traveling with his father.

Officers say Matheny should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information concerning his whereabouts is encouraged to contact their local police or the Indiana State Police immediately.
