INDIANAPOLIS (March 16, 2016) – One person is dead and another is injured after an early morning shooting on the city’s east side.

Police were called to the intersection of East 20th Street and Wallace Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m. Wednesday after several residents reported hearing shots fired.

When they arrived on scene, police say they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say both victims were transported to Eskenazi Hospital – one in critical condition and one with non-life threatening injuries.

According to officers, the victim in critical condition, Clifford Brown Jr, 33, later died at the hospital.

The victim with non-life threatening injuries has been identified as Carl Stevenson, 38. He is listed in good condition, with a graze wound.

Officers say homicide detectives are now on scene investigating and interviewing potential witnesses.

"Now that one of them has passed, there’s going to be a crime lab," said IMPD Commander Michael Jefferson. "So they’ll keep working and keep talking to witnesses. We’ve got a few people over here that may have seen what was going on."

Anyone with information about this shooting is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS (8477).
