BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (March 16, 2016) – A 21-year-old man is accused of throwing a Molotov cocktail at his 17-year-old ex-girlfriend’s home and also pouring sugar in her gas tank in an attempt to clog the engine.

According to police, Andrei Fumurescu, 21, threw a homemade explosive made from a whiskey bottle and gasoline onto the porch of a home in the 1000 block of East Miller Drive in Bloomington on Monday morning at 1 a.m.

"These teens have some ridiculous idea that this is what the real world is. They think that if someone breaks up with you, you can throw an explosive through their house and it is not a big deal. I think that they should be treated with just as much severity as the crime that they committed," says neighbor Mercedes Francois.

Fumurescu is also accused of entering the garage in the home, stealing gasoline, and pouring sugar into his ex-girlfriend’s gas tank.

Following an investigation, Fumurescu and was arrested, and he faces a preliminary charge of arson and vandalism.

According to police, Fumurescu's new 16-year-old girlfriend helped him come up with the plan, and she was referred to a juvenile detention facility on a charge of conspiracy to commit arson.

Fumurescu is being held at the Monroe County Jail.
