Columbus woman arrested for neglect after police say she overdosed on heroin in front of her children
COLUMBUS, Ind. (March 17, 2016) — A Columbus woman is in jail after allegedly overdosing on heroin with her children present in the backseat of a vehicle.
Columbus police officers responded to the driveway of a home in the 900 block of McClure Road, after receiving a report of an unresponsive woman, who was not breathing. After arriving on scene, officers saw Christina Wilson, 25, slumped over the steering wheel of her car. Officers attempted to get a response from her, but were unsuccessful. The officers suspected she had overdosed on heroin, so they quickly administered Narcan. After a few minutes the woman woke up and was transported to Columbus Regional Health for medical treatment.
Further investigation revealed that three of Wilson’s children, all younger than five, were unsupervised in the vehicle while she was in an unresponsive state.
The Department of Child Services, who also reported to the scene, placed the children in the care of a relative.
Wilson was arrested and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was jailed on a preliminary charge of three counts of neglect of a dependent.
This was the second time within 24 hours that Columbus police officers utilized Narcan to revive an individual.
