INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 22, 2016) — A 14-year-old is in serious condition after being shot on the city’s near southeast side late Monday night.

Police responded to the 1700 block of Southern Avenue just after 11:30 p.m. on reports of shots fired.

When they arrived on scene, officers found a 14-year-old boy suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Police say the victim was in a vehicle smoking marijuana and was shot by another person in the vehicle after an argument over a firearm and narcotics. According to officers, the suspect fled after the shooting.

The victim was transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in serious condition.

Officials with IMPD tell us this was not a random incident, and the victim has a past criminal record.
