MUNCIE, Ind. (March 30, 2016) – A Muncie man is facing charges after police say he bit an officer’s leg during an arrest early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the 4000 block of North Everett Street around 2 a.m. for a security check after a woman called saying her boyfriend, Keiven Stewart, 24, told her he was being followed and there were people outside his apartment.

When officers arrived, they saw a vehicle leaving the apartment complex. One of the officers tried to stop the vehicle to see if it was involved in the incident. When the officer turned their lights on, a man, later identified as Stewart, came running from the apartment towards the police car.

The officers asked the man to come over to them and tell them what was wrong, but they say he wouldn’t cooperate and started fighting with them. Officers tased Stewart, he fell to the ground and they tried to apply handcuffs to him. As they were doing this, officers say Stewart bit one of their legs.

The officers placed Stewart under arrest and transported him to Ball Memorial Hospital for medical clearance. Once he was cleared, officers took him to the Delaware County Jail and charged him with battery and resisting law enforcement.
