GREENWOOD, Ind. (April 1, 2016) — Police say a boy around 2-years-old was pulled from a retention pond in Greenwood Friday afternoon.

It happened in the 1100 block of Bexley Drive, at Bexley Village Apartments, around 2:30 p.m.

Police say an apartment maintenance worker was the one to pull the boy out.

He was taken to St. Francis South where he was stabilized and then he was taken to Riley Hospital for Children.

Police say the the boy’s father was watching him at his apartment, when he fell asleep and the boy left through the front door. Police say the boy had learned how to unlock the door, so the father installed a second lock, but he believes a relative living in the apartment forgot to lock it.

As of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, the child was listed in serious condition.
