NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (April 2, 2016) - A Hamilton County couple has reached a rare marriage milestone and their family threw them a party this weekend.
It is a goal most everyone who gets married tries to reach.
Cathern and Daniel Kerfoot are celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary.
They got married on April 2, 1941 which is also Cathern’s birthday.
A few years later, Daniel served in the Navy during World War II.
The two missed each other, but Cathern says she wrote Daniel every day he was gone.
The life-long love affair began with a wink and a smile in the 7th grade and 75 years later, it’s still going strong.
“When we got eye to eye, I winked and when she winked I almost fell outta my stool because she winked both eyes,” said Daniel.
“I thought well, go for it, so I just winked both eyes back at him and I've never dated anyone else,” said Cathern.
The couple says the key to a successful marriage is to love each other and stick together.
According to the National Center for Family and Marriage, only 7% of all current marriages in the U.S. have reached the 50-year mark.
